For more than seven decades, Ebony Magazine has chronicled the most important African-American issues, personalities, and interests of its time, including operating essentially as the journal of record for the Civil Rights Movement. But along with most other media companies, the publication faced stark challenges if it was to survive in the rapidly changing media landscape of 2015. Senior lecturer Steve Rogers discusses Ebony Magazine’s storied history, including its founder’s awareness of disruption theory fifty years ahead of time, and what the company has long meant for the black community.

I just listened to the podcast regarding Ebony magazine in the Black Business Series that included Steve Rogers commentary. I must say that as a retired Black business man and long time friend of Steve's I am so proud and delighted that he is using his platform, at HBS, to highlight the achievements of such distinguished and accomplished Black entrepreneurs such as publisher John H. Johnson.

While I was aware of much of the history through my studies in college of African American high achievers, Steve still managed to shed many new interesting historical points that I was not aware of.

It is my intent to listen to other segments of this much needed series as well. Thanks again Steve.
